There are two kinds of import license that Legal metrology Department issues:
- Import License(weights and measures)
- import license (Pre-packaged products)
As per the Section 19 of the Legal metrology Act, 2009, those wishing to import measuring instruments and do business with them in the Indian market must obtain registration as an importer by filing an application in Schedule X under Rule 15 of the act.
Import License (for the import of pre-packaged products)Importers have to file application of registration of importers under Rule 27 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 for pre-packaging the products.
Q4.What is Packer/Manufacturer Registration?
Packers and manufacturers engages in pre-packaging of products must obtain certificate or registration known as the packer license under Rule 27 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

Model approval is issued by the legal metrology department as per the Section 22 of legal Metrology Act, 2009 to importers and manufacturers of weights and measuring products.
