How does HITS operate?
There are three ways by which HITS Operate:
Buying and Aggregating the Content
This mode of operation consists of the following:
- The HIT operator buys the contents of the cable operators in India
- Aggregate the content (channels) at the HIT station
- Uplink the channels to the satellite using his or her own encryption.
Providing Passive Infrastructure
In this mode of operation, a HIT operator:
- Provides passive infrastructure on his satellite to MSOs
- The infrastructure consists of resources such as:
- Transponder space
- Earth station facilities
- Provision of simultaneously encrypting the channels or multicrypting
Combo Model of the First and Second Models
It includes aggregation of contents of other cable operators and providing them passive infrastructure.
What is needed to become a HIT Operator in India?
To operate as a HITS Operator, you need to get the approval of Ministry of Information and broadcasting via TRAI or Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. That ministry, to ensure that only the genuine can apply for the registration, have set forth stringent eligibility criteria.
