Approval for the Model

Packaged Commodity Registration
As per Rule 27 of Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011, those who want to be part of the packaging industry for the weighing and measuring of products must obtain the package commodity registration.
Import License
Only after the model is approved, one can import the products. However, you need to obtain the second level of import license that only a legal Metrology department can provide.
Dealership License
Suppose the importer imports the product and the dealer sells the product with the same name. In that case, the latter has to obtain the Dealership License from the Legal metrology Department.
Product Stamping
If an individual has access to weight and measuring tools for personal uses that consist of transactions or products, the product must be stamped by the Legal metrology department first.

1. Regional Reference Standard Laboratories (RRSLs)
These laboratories are set up to meet the requirements of legal metrology of the state government industries and consumers in the country. In India, the RRSLs are situated in five cities Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Faridabad and Guwahati. Two new laboratories are established in Nagpur and Varanasi.
Basically, the RRSLs are a link between a National Physical Laboratory and the States Weights & Measure laboratories. It ensures that the correct weight and measurement are used in trade and transactions. The divisions of the department and other subordinate offices already have ISO 9001 certification. These laboratories verify the secondary standards of the state government. Also, testing of models of weights and measures, calibration of weighing and measuring instruments and organising consumer awareness programs.
2. The Indian Institute of Legal Metrology, Ranchi
In this National Centre, professional training has been provided to Legal Metrology officers. Also, it provides training to foreign participants in neighbouring and developing countries. A basic training course in the field of legal metrology has been provided to legal metrology officers which is compulsory. The rules and regulations of legal metrology. Other than this, it organises various refresher courses and seminars on Legal Metrology on a regular basis.
