Procedure of ISI certification under BIS
The following are the steps to obtain an ISI certification in India:
Step 1: Choose a product code that meets the quality standards set by the BIS. You must choose an ISI standard code that matches your product.
Step 2: Next fill out the Application form and fill in the appropriate product code that is chosen in the first step. The application should include Form-V and the required registration fees. Additionally, the applicant is responsible for paying audit fees to cover any necessary inspections.
Note: The applicant must file separate ISI forms for each product manufactured.
Step 3: A BIS Officer and the inspection team will visit your factory premises to inspect the location. During the inspection, they will closely examine the quality control and manufacturing process. Also, the BIS Officer will collect product samples to send to a BIS-authorized laboratory for testing.
Step 4: To complete the application process, you have to collect the product sample report from authorized laboratories and submit it to BIS.
Step 5: After applying for an ISI Certificate and submitting the necessary documents, test report, and application form (in Form-V), the BIS Authority will verify them. Once this process is complete, the authority will issue a Certificate of ISI Mark Registration.
Usually, it takes about 30 days from the date of application submission to acquire the ISI Mark Certification. The validity of the issued ISI Certificate is one year and needs to be renewed one month before the expiry date. To renew the Certificate, you must file an application duly certified by a Practising Chartered Accountant.
