As per data released by government on 1 November 2025, GST collections in October 2025 rose to 4.6% and amounted to Rs. 1.96 lakh crore. This figure is slightly lower as compared to Rs. 1.97 lakh crore that was collected in October 2024.

After accounting for refunds, the government's net tax collections stood at Rs. 1.69 lakh crore. This indicates a 0.6% increase compared to October 2024. The data shows that collections from Central GST, State GST and Integrated GST all rose year-on-year while cess collections experienced a decline.

In the total gross collection, the CGST amounted to Rs. 36,547 crore, the SGST to Rs. 45,134 crore, the IGST to Rs. 1,06,443 crore and the cess to Rs. 7,812 crore. During the April-October period of fiscal year 2026, GST collections grew by 9.0% and amounted to approximately Rs. 13.89 lakh crore compared to Rs. 12.74 lakh crore in the same period of previous fiscal year.

Gross GST revenue in October increased by 12.84% year-on-year, totaling Rs. 50,884 crore. The domestic revenue saw a modest increase of 2%, amounting to Rs. 1.45 lakh crore. Upon refunds, net GST revenue from domestic transactions stayed flat at Rs. 1.31 lakh crore while net customs revenue grew by 2.5% and reached Rs. 37,210 crore.

Since GST policy was launched, the GST Council has played an important role in shaping the GST system. The council is chaired by the Union Finance Minister and comprises state finance ministers and other key officials of the Government of India.

Despite the sweeping GST structural rationalization by the government, the GST revenues in the country have stayed robust. The GST collections’ continued strength shows that the reforms are simultaneously underpinning local consumption as well as revenue buoyancy for the government.

Next-generation GST reforms that took effect on September 22 were expected to significantly impact the government's tax collection. Under GST 2.0, the Ministry of Finance streamlined the multi-layered tax structure into two main slabs: 5% and 18%, with a special rate of 40% for select items.

In September 2025, the government collected Rs. 1.89 lakh crore in GST. This represented a 9.1% increase year-on-year. “The strong GST collections during the festive season clearly show that people are spending and business activity remains healthy," said Amit Maheshwari, Tax Partner at AKM Global, a tax and consulting firm.

Commenting on the latest GST collection data, Mahesh Jaising, Partner and Indirect Tax Leader at Deloitte India, stated, "This fiscal strength arms the Government with the bold resolve to drive GST 2.0 reforms— streamlining rates, curbing evasion and simplifying compliance—propelling India toward a truly seamless, tech-driven tax ecosystem."
