India Post Payments Bank signs MoU with EPFO

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), a 100% Government of India-owned entity under Department of Posts in the Ministry of Communications, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.

This agreement aims to provide doorstep Digital Life Certificate services to pensioners who are enrolled under the Employees Pension Scheme, 1995 (abbreviated as: EPS'95). The MoU was exchanged between Shri R. Viswesvaran, Managing Director and CEO of IPPB, and Shri Ramesh Krishnamurthi, Central Provident Fund Commissioner (CPFC) of EPFO, during the 73rd Foundation Day of EPFO.

The event was attended by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports, who served as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries included Ms. Vandana Gurnani, Secretary of Labour and Employment, members of the Central Board of Trustees (CBT), senior officers from the Ministry of Labour and Employment and officials from EPFO and IPPB.

Under the MoU, IPPB will take advantage of its wide network of nearly 1.65 lakh Post Offices and 3 lakh+ postal service providers (Postmen and Gramin Dak Sevaks) equipped with Doorstep Banking devices and use the digital process of Face Authentication technology and Fingerprint biometric authentication to help EPFO pensioners in filing their Digital Life Certificates from the comfort of their homes.

This would do away with the need for them to visit bank branches or EPFO offices to file traditional paper-based certificates. The cost of issuing the Digital Life Certificates would be borne by EPFO entirely. This would make the service free for the EPFO pensioners.

Shri R Viswesvaran, MD & CEO of IPPB, said the following about the collaboration, “This partnership with EPFO reinforces IPPB’s mission to bring essential financial and citizen services to every doorstep in India. With our technology-enabled postal network and trusted last-mile reach, EPFO pensioners—especially in rural and semi-urban areas—will now be able to complete their life certificate submission seamlessly, with dignity and convenience. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Digital India’ and ‘Ease of Living’ vision, harnessing technology and postal infrastructure to ensure inclusive service delivery for senior citizens and pensioners.”

It was in the year 2020 that the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) introduced the Doorstep Service for Digital Life Certificates. This service allows pensioners to generate their Jeevan Pramaan using Aadhaar-enabled biometric authentication. To a great extent, it reduces the time taken to issue the certificate. Pensioners can easily access this service by contacting their postman or Gramin Dak Sevak or by visiting their nearest post office.

All they need to do is to provide their Aadhaar number and pension details and then authenticate their request via Aadhaar linked face authentication or fingerprint biometric authentication. Once the certificate generation process has been completed, the pensioner will receive a confirmation SMS on their mobile phone. The certificate can also be viewed online the next day at https://jeevanpramaan.gov.in/v1.0/.
