PAN To Be Deactivated On 1 Jan 2026 If Not Linked With Aadhaar

Both PAN and Aadhaar Card are essential documents for the taxpayers in India. In order to streamline tax administration and curb tax evasion, the Government of India has made it mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar Card. The government has established December 31 as the final deadline to link your Aadhaar with your PAN card. By linking the PAN with the Aadhaar, the individuals will be able to ensure compliance with the income tax rules and regulations.

Starting 1 January 2026 onwards, the PAN cards that are not linked to Aadhaar cards will become inactive. This means individuals who don’t link their PAN with Aadhaar by the set deadline will no longer be able to use their PAN for financial or tax related transactions. This rule applies to all PAN holders across India.

So, if you hold a PAN and it isn’t linked with your Aadhaar card yet, you must hurry up before it’s too late. To link your PAN card with Aadhaar, you must visit the official Income Tax Portal and complete all the necessary steps.

Individuals who fail to link their PAN with Aadhaar will need to reactivate their PAN later on by completing the required Aadhaar verification as both documents are now mandatory for income tax filing as well as other financial services. Therefore, to save time and energy, it is best to complete the linking process in a timely manner.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has also introduced new rules for updating Aadhaar to simplify services for users. Beginning 1 November 2025, Aadhaar updates will become fully digital.

As a result, the users will be able to correct details such as their name, address, date of birth, and mobile number online without the need to visit Aadhaar enrollment centers. They will be able to update all such details from the comfort of their homes.

Required documents like PAN, passport or ration card can also be uploaded digitally. These documents will be verified through the UIDAI's internal systems and make the process way more efficient for the individuals.

Please note that the fee structure for some Aadhaar services has also been revised by UIDAI. For more information regarding this, you can visit the official website of UIDAI.
