According to the Rural Development Ministry, the VB-G RAM G Bill 2025, which was cleared by the Parliament recently, received the assent of President Droupadi Murmu on 21 December, 2025.

VB G RAM G full form is Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin). It seeks to replace UPA era MGNREGA and aims to provide 125 days of guaranteed wage employment to labourers in rural areas.

The government has stated that the new scheme aims to establish a rural development framework that aligns with the nation’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

What is VB G Ram G Bill?

As mentioned earlier, the VB G RAM G Bill full form is Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin). It is designed to replace the UPA-era MGNREGA, or the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, which originally guaranteed at least 100 days of employment.

States were allowed to offer up to 50 additional days of work beyond this guarantee. The NDA government had also further extended wage employment to 150 days for Scheduled Tribe communities living in forest areas.

Under the new legislation, there will be a statutory guarantee of 125 days of wage employment, as stated by the government. The Centre has emphasized that the intent of the bill is to ensure public funds are spent efficiently while promoting greater transparency and accountability.

Comprehensive Development & Employment under VB G RAM G

Mr. Shrivraj Chouhan, Union Rural Development Minister, mentioned that the VB G RAM G aims to lead to the "comprehensive development of villages." It is intended to provide ample employment opportunities for every individual living in poverty, uphold their dignity and offer additional support to the differently-abled, elderly, women and members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. The government has allocated Rs. 95,000 crore for this initiative.

States often found ways to avoid spending on material costs rather than seeking to extract a larger share of funds from the Centre’s contributions. Under the new bill, however, enhanced powers will be granted to the gram panchayat and gram sabha. This approach will allow them to decide what tasks need to be undertaken rather than allocating funds to projects carried out merely to claim MGNREGA dues.
