Ensuring the safety of food available for the people’s consumption is very necessary as it is one of the basic amenities that is mandatorily required by everybody. Keeping in mind the importance of ensuring food safety, the concept of Food License was introduced. Now, every food business operator (FBO) in India, including the manufacturers, transporters, distributors, and retailers, is required to obtain a valid FSSAI license before commencing the business.

However, simply obtaining a food license is not sufficient. The license holder must also ensure it is renewed after the specified time period. In this blog post, we shall explain to our readers how to renew FSSAI license.

Documents Required for FSSAI Basic License Renewal

For renewal of FSSAI Basic License, you need to submit the following documents:

Address proof of the business i.e., latest utility bills like electricity bills, phone bills, or gas bills.
Identity proof of the food business operator i.e., documents like PAN, Voter ID, driving license, Aadhaar card and Passport.
No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by Municipality, Panchayat, Health Department, etc.
In case of rented business premises, then a rent agreement and NOC from the landlord is necessary.
Applicant’s passport size photographs.

Documents Required for FSSAI State/Central License Renewal

For renewal of FSSAI State or Central License, you require the following documents:

Address proof of the business i.e., latest utility bills like electricity bills, phone bills, or gas bills.
Food processing plant’s layout plan.
List of directors with their full address, in case of company.
List of partners with their full address, in case of partnership firm.
Identity proof of the applicant i.e., documents like PAN, Voter ID, driving license, Aadhaar card and Passport.
ID proof and address proof of directors/partners/authorized signatories.
Partnership deed, if the business entity is a partnership firm.
Memorandum and Articles of Association, if the business entity is a company.
Nomination of persons authorized by the company, as documented in a board resolution in Form IX.
Certificate from the Ministry of Commerce for 100% Export-Oriented Units (EOU), in case of the Central License.
DGFT-issued Import Export Code Registration, in case of Central Licence.
Analysis report of the water to be used in food processing, for the Central Licence.
Cancelled cheque.

List of food categories for entities engaged in manufacturing.
Rent agreement and NOC from landlord, in case of rented business premises.
NOC from Municipality or other concerned authorities.
Name and specifications of the equipment based on the installed capacity and horsepower for processing and manufacturing units.

Additional Documents for Renewal

You will need to submit additional documents in case of manufacturing and processing units:

Layout plan of business premises. It must show the unit’s operation and dimension-wise area.
Equipment and machinery list. Must mention horsepower, number and installed capacity of machinery.
Complete list of food categories manufactured by unit.
The analysis report of the water used in food from a recognized public health laboratory.
Letter of authority with the name and address of the responsible person designated by the manufacturer.

FSSAI Renewal Online Process

The FSSAI renewal process involves several steps. There are two ways to do renewal, i.e., through login and through homepage. Both these methods are explained below:

Through Login:

Step 1: Visit the official FoSCoS portal of FSSAI.

Step 2: Log in using FSSAI license/certificate number and password.

Step 3: Once you log onto the portal, click on ‘renewal’ option. You can find it on your screen’s left side. Then, select ‘apply for renewal of license/registration’.

Step 4: Now, on your screen, the list of issued FSSAI licenses/registrations will be displayed. Click on ‘proceed’ for license/registration requiring renewal.

Note: FSSAI license/registration eligible for renewal will only be displayed 120 days before the license expiration.

Step 5: Now, form A or B will open depending on FSSAI license/registration. You can only edit the details that are editable.

Step 6: Now, upload necessary documents and pay FSSAI renewal fee.

Step 7: Upon fee payment, a receipt containing a 17-digit registration number will be generated.

Step 8: By entering the 17-digit registration no, you can track FSSAI license renewal status.

Through Home Screen:

Step 1: Visit the homepage of FSSAI FoSCos portal. Then, click on the ‘Renewal of License and Registration is same as new License/Registration’ tab.

Step 2: Enter License/Registration no. and validity end date. Then, enter captcha code and click on ‘submit’.

Step 3: Now, license/registration details will appear on your screen. Click on the ‘proceed’ option.

Step 4: Now, Form A or B will open. In this, you must upload the documents, select the years for which license is needed, choose payment method and then click on the ‘Save & Next’ button.

Step 5: Once you complete the payment, a receipt containing a 17-digit reference number will be generated for future reference. Using the reference number, you can track application status via the FSSAI FoSCoS portal.
