The NGO Darpan is a free portal that serves as an intermediary between Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and government departments. It is an initiative launched by the National Informatics Centre and NITI Aayog.

The NITI Aayog full form is National Institution for Transforming India Aayog. By registering with NITI Aayog you will get official recognition from Indian Government. The main purpose of NITI Aayog is to create a base for cooperation between NGOs and the Indian Government.

The portal exchanges information between NGOs, Voluntary Organisations (VOs) and government departments, ministries and bodies. When the NGO complete the Darpan registration, the portal provides them with new updates regarding government grants and other benefits. What is NGO Darpan?

The NGO Darpan has been maintained by NITI Aayog since January 1st, 2015. The NITI Aayog invites all Voluntary Organisations (VOs) and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to sign up on the portal.

The Darpan platform is a joint initiative of the NITI Aayog and the NIC (National Informatics Centre). The aim behind launching it is to help NGOs and the government to create stronger collaborations. Also, completing the NGO Darpan Registration will give NGOs legitimacy and accountability (Non-Government Organizations).

First, the Prime Minister’s Office was in charge of the portal which was then handed over to NITI Aayog with the help of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Since then, the portal has evolved into an e-governance tool that aids in the development of more transparent and healthy interaction between the Government and Non-Government Organizations.

The main motive of the government behind NGO Darpan online registration is to maintain a centralized database of all NGOs/Trust/Society that want to work for the welfare of society and want to raise funds from government departments to achieve their NGO goals:

1. Help the NGOs and other Voluntary Organisations to interact and participate with government departments.

2. NGOs will receive a Unique Identification through the portal which helps them improve them improve their goodwill and reputation.

3. Help in coordinating critical information across Departments and Ministry websites.

4. Provides a continuous flow of information to NGOs about Ministry/ Government all across the country.

5. Through the portal, the NGOs can get new information about new programs and projects of the government. Also, it provides an update on the government’s previous projects.

Documents Required for NGO Darpan Registration

The following documents are mandatory to obtain Darpan Portal ID:

1. PAN Card of the NGO (it can be of Society/ Trust/ Section 8 Company).

2. NGO Registration Certificate (submit scanned copy in pdf format and size should be less than 2MB).

3. Valid Mail ID and Mobile Number.

4. Governing Body Members PAN Card, Aadhar Card, Mail ID and Mobile Number

5. Last 5 years Grant received details.

6. Details related to the NGO's working area along with complete activities done by the NGO.

NGO Darpan Registration Process (Online)

For NGOs and VOs, it is mandatory to register on the NGO Darpan portal if they want to receive grants or assistance from the central or state government. They must complete the NGO Darpan registration process to obtain a Unique ID to apply for government funds. 

Important: NITI Aayog neither recommends nor issues any physical or digital certificate in favour of a particular NGO/NPO/CSO, but it only issues a Unique ID. Darpan ID meaning is the ID which is generated at the time of completion of the onboarding process at the portal. In case, any NGO/NPO/CSO shows such a letter or certificate to any authority or displays it at its office, then this must be immediately brought to the notice of NITI Aayog.
