One important thing to be noted here is that a food company whose annual turnover is below 12 lakhs rupees requires only the FSSAI registration.  On the contrary, the companies who have the annual turnover of more than 12 lakhs rupees require an FSSAI food license. What is FSSAI license number?

FSSAI license number is a 14 digit number that provides all the record of the producer permit of the FSSAI authority. This number is divided into 5 sections reflecting the basic data of the producer. The first digit of the number reflects whether the producer is enrolled with FASSAI or not, the following two digits are for state code, the next two digits tell the year in which the producer was enlisted. Further, the number of enlisting specialist is reflected by following three digits and remaining are the maker’s permit/enrollment number. 

The rules regarding FASSAI number

The FASSAI number obtained by the producer and its logo must be placed on the label of the food package in a manner that it prominently visible.  Further, the color of the logo and number displayed shall be in contrast with the background in case of multiple units.

The license number should be placed on the addresses of the multiple units on the label of the product. Moreover, the number of the producing company must also be displayed along with the lot number.

When the goods are imported the importer is required to display the logo and License number of FASSAI along with the name and address of importer on a sticker to be affixed before getting customs clearance.

The size of the letters and the numerals of the license number should be as prescribed in Food Safety and Standard (Packaging and Labelling) Regulation, 2011.

Displaying the FASSAI logo and number on the product reflects that the food business operator possesses a valid license under the FASSAI Act, 2006.

A food business operator is empowered to put this logo and number only till the validity of the license obtained according to the Food Safety and Standards (Business and registration on food business) Regulations, 2011.

Go to the official website of FASSAI by clicking onhttps://foodlicensing.fssai.gov.in/cmsweb/TrackFBO.aspx.

When the link is opened you will see the page asking for your license or registration number.  You are required to enter your FSSAI License number that will be given on the Label of the Food product.

As soon as you enter your number you will be taken to the next screen. On the next screen your license number, the name of the manufacturer, the status of the license, kind of business, products list and premise address of the manufacturer of the Food product will be displayed.

Finally, you can check the details of your FASSAI number.
