What is FCRA?

Foreign Contribution (Registration) Act or FCRA is an act of parliament of India to consolidate regulations pertaining to foreign contributions to Indian organizations. It was introduced to ensure that foreign contributions can’t be used to alter the socio-political climate of the country in favour of the donors.

Therefore, any organization seeking foreign contributions have to become FCRA registered first.

 

Documents required for FCRA registration

The FCRA registration process in India is pretty straightforward. You file the application along with the FCRA document requirements.  You wait for the application to be processed and then, you get the right to get foreign donations for your organization. While the process is simple, the documents required should be attached with precision to prevent application rejection. With that said, following are the documents required for FCRA registration:

  1. PAN card of the NGO: An NGO is a section 8 company with its own separate identity. That identity is proved by PAN card.
  2. Certificate of incorporation: Certificate of incorporation will give intrinsic details about your NGO to the FCRA department.
  3. Balance Sheets: Copies of the balance sheets of the last three years also have to be submitted to the FCRA department. They should be properly audited and should paint a clear picture about the finances of your organization.
  4. Management Details: All the details about the current and the previous management of the NGO are required.
  5. Resolution copies: Every decision that an NGO makes is marked by a resolution. Over the years, you must’ve made many decisions to move our NGO forward. Copies of the resolutions highlighting those decisions have to be submitted to the FCRA department.
  6. Undertaking: The Chief Functionary (CEO) of the NGO has to draft and sign an undertaking.
  7. 80G and 12A certificate copies: If your organization has applied for tax rebate certificates (80G and 12A), a copy of those is required as well.
