Andhra Pradesh Govt launches Thalliki Vandanam Scheme

To commemorate its first year in power, the Andhra Pradesh coalition government officially launched the Thalliki Vandanam scheme on Thursday. This initiative is one of the flagship programs under the government’s "Super Six" welfare agenda promised during the 2024 election campaign.

The scheme is designed to offer financial aid to school going children by transferring funds directly into the accounts of their mothers.

What is Thalliki Vandanam Scheme?

Thalliki Vandanam Scheme is a financial assistance scheme. It provides Rs. 15,000 per student annually. Of this amount, Rs. 13,000 is credited directly to the mother’s bank account while the remaining Rs. 2,000 is allocated for the development of the child’s school.

In its first year, the government sanctioned Rs. 8,745 crore for the scheme, benefiting around 67.27 lakh students studying in both government and private institutions.

Wide Coverage and First Phase Disbursal

In the first phase, funds were transferred to 42.69 lakh mothers and covered 54.94 lakh eligible students. Unlike the previous Ammavodi scheme by the YSRCP government that supported only one child per family, Thalliki Vandanam extends support to every school going child in the household.

Eligibility Criteria and Linked Benefits

Students enrolled in government schools as well as 74,887 private schools are covered under the scheme. It is also integrated with centrally sponsored pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for students belonging to SC, ST, BC, and minority communities. If a student receives partial assistance through these central schemes, the Thalliki Vandanam will cover the remaining amount.

Appeals and Second Phase Rollout

Families whose children were deemed ineligible during the first phase can file appeals. The eligibility lists will be displayed at local village and ward secretariats and applications can be submitted until June 20.

Grievances will be reviewed between June 21 and 28, and newly enrolled Class 1 and Intermediate students will be included in the second phase, with funds scheduled to be released on July 7.
