CBIC introduces system-based auto-approval for IFSC code registration

To expedite the customs procedures and enhance trade facilitation, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has come up with system-based auto-approval for IFSC code registration to improve the Ease of Doing Business.

According to the new move, requests for registration of the same incentive bank account and IFSC code for a particular Importer Exporter Code (IEC) will be automatically approved at multiple Customs locations as long as the same combination has already been approved at any one location. This will lead to elimination of manual intervention by the Port officer and the system will directly approve such requests.

The initiative’s objectives are:

1. quick processing of bank account and IFSC code approval requests,

2. improving the overall trade efficiency.

3. making the registration process at multiple ports simpler,

4. ensuring swifter and smoother credit of export incentives into exporters’ bank accounts.

Exporters receive export-related benefits in the bank account they have declared in the Customs Automated System. There is currently a facility for online registration of Authorised Dealer (AD) Codes by exporters on ICEGATE. 

However, requests for registering incentive-linked bank accounts and IFSC codes under an Importer Exporter Code (IEC) require approval from Customs officers at each port location. This process often leads to duplicative efforts and delays especially when the same bank account and IFSC combination is registered across multiple customs stations. 

The CBIC is committed to using technology in order to simplify the procedures, reduce transaction costs and improve the ease of doing business for India’s trade community to ultimately enhance the Customs experience.
