On 19 June 2026 at Agra, the Inaugural BRICS MSME Forum 2026 was held by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The event was graced by several government representatives, policymakers, industry leaders and private sector stakeholders from BRICS Member and Partner Countries. Together, they discussed ways for bolstering MSME ecosystems, nurturing sustainability and improving global competitiveness.
While speaking at Forum, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, who is Minister of MSME, Government of India, emphasized collective action’s importance when it comes to molding MSMEs’ future across BRICS nations. He said, "MSMEs are central to achieving inclusive and sustainable economic development. The challenges facing enterprises today whether related to financing, technology adoption, sustainability or market access require collaborative solutions. BRICS countries possess immense strengths and complementary capabilities. Through continued dialogue and cooperation, we can build a robust framework that empowers MSMEs to become drivers of innovation, exports and employment.
Further, he reaffirmed the commitment of India when it comes to promoting stronger economic partnerships and facilitating knowledge sharing among the member countries of BRICS. Furthermore, Shri Bhupendra Chaudhary, who is Minister for MSME in Government of Uttar Pradesh, addressed gathering and highlighted the state's commitment when it comes to boosting entrepreneurship as well as industrial development.
He said at the inaugural event, "Uttar Pradesh has emerged as one of India's fastest-growing economic regions with MSMEs playing a transformative role in employment generation and grassroots development. Our focus remains on creating an enabling ecosystem through infrastructure development, policy support, skill enhancement and digital empowerment. The exchange of global best practices through platforms such as the BRICS MSME Forum will further strengthen these efforts.”
Here are the key highlights of the BRICS MSME Forum 2026:
A special film was showcased at the forum. It was based on entrepreneurial strength, innovation capabilities and success stories of India's MSME sector.
One of the key highlights of the forum was a presentation given Mr. Saurabh Sanyal, who is the ASSOCHAM Secretary General. He shared the recommendations as well as outcomes from the private-sector stakeholder consultations held among BRICS member countries. In his presentation, Mr. Sanyal emphasized that there is a need for deeper cooperation in areas like technology exchange, digital trade, sustainable manufacturing practices, capacity building and supply-chain integration.
The forum also included presentations from government representatives of BRICS member countries as well as partner countries. These representatives shared best practices as well as successful case studies that placed a focus on strengthening MSME ecosystems, promoting entrepreneurship, enhancing productivity and facilitating access to international markets.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Mercy Epao, who is the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. She expressed appreciation for the participating delegations, industry leaders, partner organizations and stakeholders for their involvement in the inaugural edition of the forum.
Additionally, the Ministry of Ayush along with Ministry of MSME and ASSOCHAM organized a yoga session in observance of International Yoga Day for BRICS representatives.
The event also featured a cultural program so as to celebrate the rich heritage of India.
The inaugural BRICS MSME Forum 2026 concluded with a strong consensus to enhance cooperation in sustainability, innovation, digital transformation, entrepreneurship development and global value chain integration. It reinforced the crucial role the MSMEs play when it comes to propelling inclusive economic growth across BRICS economies.
Earlier in the day, Shri Bharat Khera, Secretary of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, inaugurated the BRICS MSME Exhibition, which serves as an important platform for innovation, collaboration and growth among BRICS nations.
The exhibition highlighted the strength as well as potential of the MSME sector when it comes to fostering inclusive and sustainable economic development.
