Are Phones and Cameras Allowed Inside Char Dham Temples?

No, phones and cameras are not allowed inside the char dham temples. The Uttarakhand government, ahead of the 2026 pilgrimage season, has announced a complete ban on mobile phones and cameras inside the temple premises during the Char Dham Yatra.

The ban will apply to not just one specific shrine but to all of the four shrines, i.e., Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. As per the officials, this move aims to preserve the sanctity and spiritual atmosphere of the temples, ensure discipline and reduce crowd congestion and distractions at the time of darshan.

Pilgrims will need to deposit their phones and cameras outside the temple complex before entry. For smooth implementation of the rule, it is anticipated that the authorities will make proper arrangements.
