Recently, ChatGPT’s developer OpenAI made an announcement that it would offer 12 months of ChatGPT Go for free. The company made this major announcement during its first-ever DevDay Exchange event aimed at expanding its presence across the Indian market. Earlier this year, ChatGPT Go was introduced as a budget-tier subscription specifically for India. This plan is designed to provide users with access to advanced AI tools at an affordable price.
Powered by GPT-5, it offers several benefits, including improved support for Indic languages, ten times higher message limits, image generation capabilities and the ability to upload files and images each day. Additionally, it features double the memory for more personalized responses. ChatGPT Go is available to both new and existing ChatGPT users.
OpenAI states that the promotional offer can be redeemed through both the web and the Android app. However, iPhone users will need to wait a few more days as it will be available on the Apple App Store next week.
For those interested, ChatGPT Go will be free for users located in India who have an OpenAI account in good standing, meaning there are no records of missed or declined payments. OpenAI has indicated that the promotion is available for a limited time but has not provided specific end dates.
If you are new to ChatGPT or are currently on the free tier of the AI chatbot, then you can access it by visiting the web version or by launching the app on your Android device. Web users should click the "Try ChatGPT Go" button.
The Android users need to tap on the "Upgrade to Go for Free" option when it appears. If the offer isn’t displayed in the Android app, you can either click on the "Try Go" option on the home screen or find the option in the app settings.
Next, you need to add a payment method if you haven't done so already. To get ChatGPT Go for free, you will be temporarily charged Re 1 if you pay via UPI or Rs 2 if you use a credit card. Please note that if you cancel your subscription after redeeming the offer, your access to ChatGPT Go will expire at the end of the 30-day billing cycle and the offer will not be available for the same account again after that.
OpenAI advises users not to cancel their subscription if they have already subscribed to ChatGPT Go, Pro or Plus via web or Google Play Store. Upon redeeming the offer, the billing date will get automatically extended by a period of 12 months and give you a full year of free access.
However, in case of users who purchased a ChatGPT subscription via Apple App Store, the subscription needs to be cancelled and then they must wait for the billing period to end before they can sign up for the promotional offer.
Additionally, if you recently renewed your ChatGPT Go subscription and were charged after the promotional offer’s announcement, then no need to panic. OpenAI will automatically add 12 free months at your current billing cycle’s end.
