For 28 April 2026, i.e. today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted heat wave conditions at isolated places in the capital region. According to the department, it is expected that maximum temperature in Delhi would reach 42 degrees Celsius today. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that all departments have been given detailed guidelines to keep the public safe during the prevailing severe heatwave.

Under directions notified by the Labour Ministry, the employers have been asked to make sure that workers get enough rest between 1 PM and 4 PM and that they have access to drinking water, shade and other basic needs.

The Chief Minister said that schools have been told to be ready to safeguard kids at all times. This means making sure there is drinking water, good air flow, fans and the appropriate clothing conditions. She also said that students should be given ORS solutions before they leave school to keep them from getting dehydrated.

CM Rekha Gupta has also informed that the Transport Department has been told to set up water counters close to bus stops across the city. The commuters will be able to access cold drinking water and ORS solutions from these counters. On the healthcare front, she assured that hospitals in the city are fully equipped to deal with any emergency resulting from the heatwave.

According to her, all the necessary medicines, facilities and arrangements are available at the hospitals. Additionally, she mentioned that in order to meet the public needs during the prevailing heatwave, water resources across the city shall remain fully functional.
