Department of Telecommunications hosts Cyber Security Conference in Hyderabad

On 13 July 2026, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Andhra Pradesh Licensed Service Area (AP LSA), held a Security Conference at Hyderabad. The conference was attended by DoT senior officials, Hyderabad Police, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, CID, the Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India and Telecom Service Providers. 

The conference was held with the aim to enhance coordination among government agencies, police, banks and telecom operators in the fight against cyber fraud and telecom-related crimes.

Progress in Combating Cyber Fraud 

Director General of Telecom Anand Khare, at the conference, reported that over the past two years, the DoT had disconnected over five crore fraudulent mobile connections. 

In addition, the Department recovered more than 12 lakh lost + stolen mobile phones and helped prevent cyber frauds worth over Rs. 1,800 crore through its Financial Fraud Risk Indicator framework.

Major Enforcement Achievements 

At the conference, the DoT AP LSA also stated that it had dismantled a total of 11 illegal telecom and cybercrime setups during 2025-26 and recovered approximately 2.04 lakh lost and stolen mobile phones, which is the highest amount in the country. 

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar emphasized the success of Operation Octopus 3.0 (pan-India cybercrime crackdown) when it comes to combating organized cyber fraud networks. 

Inauguration of DoT’s First Network Security Lab

On the sidelines of the conference, Anand Khare inaugurated the Department of Telecommunications' first Network Security Laboratory at the Hyderabad unit. This unit is dedicated to cybersecurity research, threat analysis and capacity building. This is the first laboratory of its kind established by the Department of Telecommunications in the country. 

The newly inaugurated facility aims to enhance capacity building, conduct threat analysis, support cybersecurity research and provide live demonstrations of advanced security solutions.
