The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), is a statutory body under the Indian Ministry of Labour and Employment, is currently inviting applications for the admission to undergraduate medical and nursing courses for the academic session 2026-27 under the Ward of Insured Person (Ward of IP) quota. The Ward of IP quota is one of the flagship welfare initiatives of the ESIC.
The admission opportunity is only available for the dependent children of workers covered under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme. This initiative reflects ESIC’s ongoing commitment when it comes to providing meaningful social security as well as educational benefits to families of insured workers across the country.
For the academic session 2026-27, a total of 783 seats have been provisionally allocated under the "Ward of IP" quota. This includes 695 MBBS seats, 28 BDS seats and 60 B.Sc. Nursing seats across 22 medical, dental and nursing institutions.
These institutions consist of ESIC Medical Colleges located in various states and select State Government Medical Colleges where seats have been reserved for eligible wards of insured persons. Admissions will be conducted through a centralized counselling process managed by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), which is a part of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
This scheme gives a chance to the eligible students to pursue professional medical and nursing education at significantly subsidized tuition fees. Students admitted under this quota are required to pay an annual tuition fee of only Rs. 24,000 for MBBS course and BDS course and Rs. 10,000 for B.Sc. Nursing courses.
It will make quality medical education accessible and affordable for beneficiaries of the ESI Scheme. Importantly, no capitation fees or donations are allowed for admission under this quota.
To be eligible to apply for any of the courses, the parent of the candidate must be a registered Insured Person under the ESI Act and must have been an active contributor to the ESI Scheme as of 30 September 2025. The applicant must be a dependent child of Insured Person, have appeared in NEET (UG) 2026 and meet the eligibility requirements set forth by the National Medical Commission, Dental Council of India, Indian Nursing Council, National Testing Agency and Medical Counselling Committee.
Male candidates should not be older than 21 years as of 08 March 2026. However, there is no age restriction for dependent unmarried female wards of Insured Persons as per the provisions of ESI Act 1948. Candidates who are eligible must obtain a valid Ward of IP Certificate issued by ESIC as the same is mandatory for participation in the admission process.
The complete application process for obtaining this certificate is digital. It can be completed by visiting the ESIC portal. On this portal, the applicants need to provide all the required details and upload necessary documents, including photographs, proof of age, NEET UG 2026 Admit Card and any other relevant certificates.
The deadline for online applications for the Ward of IP Certificate is 21 June 2026. The application process requires OTP-based authentication. Therefore, the candidates must ensure that the mobile number of the Insured Person in the ESIC database is correctly updated. Once they have obtained the Ward of IP certificate, they must separately register on the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) portal for participation in the centralized counselling process.
