FSSAI Issued Notices to 3 Brands Over Misleading Labelling Claims

On 6 July, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued notices to 3 brands, namely, Heritage Foods Limited, Dia Foods and Cipzer Nutraceuticals. The food industry regulator took this action due to alleged misleading claims and labeling violations associated with these brands. 

Heritage Foods Received a Notice for Paneer

FSSAI issued a notice to Heritage Foods Limited for “Heritage Fresh Paneer”. It was discovered by the food regulator that the claim “Fresh Paneer” was inconsistent with the conditions laid down under Schedule V for using the term “Fresh”. 

The authority also objected to the use of the term “Healthy” in trademark or name “Healthy Happiness” under Regulation 8(3) of Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018.

Dia Foods Received a Notice for Chocolate Spread

The food regulator sent a notice to Dia Foods for the product “La Casa Vegan Hazelnut Chocolate Spread”. The product claims to be “all natural”, “100% organic” and “vegan”. To make such claims, it is necessary to comply with applicable regulations and obtain prior approval for organic and vegan endorsements.

Cipzer Nutraceuticals Received a Notice for Juice Claims

Cipzer Nutraceuticals received a notice from FSSAI for its "Juice Capsules." The claims in question include "FSSAI Approved," "boost your immune system," "remove toxins from your body" and "made with organic vegetables." The notice points out that scientific evidence to support these claims was not provided by the company. 

One-Week Deadline After FSSAI Notices 

The three companies are required to provide explanations for their period within a period of seven days, starting from 6 July 2026. Not responding to the authority within this period may result in action under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 and associated regulations.
