IRDAI warns against a Fraudulent Insurance Website

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India, abbreviated as IRDAI, is the regulator of the insurance industry. It aims to protect the interests of policyholders, regulate, promote and ensure orderly growth of the industry.

It has come to the notice of IRDAI that a fraudulent website is pretending to be IRDAI’s official Consumer Education Website. The official website can be accessed at the URL: https://policyholder.gov.in. The fraudulent site is hosted at: https://policyholdergov.org.

This fraudulent website has been found to be misusing the official emblem and icons of IRDAI, the Department of Financial Services, india.gov.in and the Council of Insurance Ombudsman. Further, it has also been found to engage in unauthorized activities, such as attempting to induce policyholders to make premium payments online and collecting their personal information.

IRDAI has issued a clarification that it does not collect any premiums, accept money for claims settlement or facilitate any financial transactions on its website. The official Consumer Education Website of IRDAI is purely intended to provide accurate information to policyholders regarding insurance awareness, their rights and grievance redressal options.

For urgent and appropriate action, the matter has already been escalated to the concerned authorities. The insurance regulator has strongly advised the general public to avoid accessing or engaging with the fraudulent website and to rely solely on IRDAI's official portals for authentic information.
