Use and distribution of 15 pharmaceutical and cosmetics products, including a popular paracetamol brand, have been banned by the Karnataka State Department of Food Safety and Drug Control. The ban comes after certain tests found these products to be unsafe and unfit for consumption.
The Karnataka State Department of Food Safety and Drug Control, operating under the State Health Department, issued a circular confirming the finding of sample tests conducted in May 2025 against the now-banned pharma and cosmetics products. A range of injectable solutions, tablets, syrups and a veterinary vaccine component are included in the ban list.
Pomol-650, a popular paracetamol tablet manufactured by Aban Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. in Mysuru, and O Shanti Gold Class Kumkum, manufactured by N Ranga Rao & Sons Pvt. Ltd., in Mysuru, are among the banned products.
Other items banned by the Department are Mitu Q7 Syrup by Bion Therapeutics, Compound Sodium Lactate Injection IP manufactured by Ultra Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. and Tom Bron Pharmaceuticals Private Ltd., Pantocot-DSR capsules by Svefn Pharmaceuticals and Sodium Chloride Injection IP 0.9% w/v formulated by Puniska Injectables Private Limited.
The ban list also includes certain veterinary products deemed as unfit for use, such as sterile diluents for poultry vaccines by Safe Parenterals Pvt. Ltd., and several other formulations like Glimiz-2 (glimepiride tablets), Iron Sucrose Injection (Irogain), and Pyracid-O Suspension.
These products should neither be used nor circulated until further instructions are provided by the officials. According to the Department’s circular, healthcare providers, pharmacies and the general public are urged to ensure compliance on an immediate basis to protect public health.
