From 1 September 2025 onwards, several key changes will be implemented, incl. reduction in commercial cylinder price, registered post’s merger with speed post and silver jewellery hallmarkings. All these changes will impact the customer directly or indirectly.

List of Key Changes from 1 September Onwards

The following list explains the key changes that are effective from today:

1. Merger of Registered Post with Speed Post

The iconic registered post service of India Post has come to an end from today onwards. The service was facing tough competition from pvt courier companies and e-commerce logistics. As per official data, there was a 25% drop in usage of registered post service from 244.4 million in 2011-12 to 184.6 million in 2019-20.

From today, the Registered Post service will be merged with India Post’s speed post service. The merger intends to improve tracking accuracy, operational efficiency and delivery speed.

Under the speed post service, registered post’s major features like secure handling, delivery proof, tracking updates and addressee specific delivery will now be offered as value added services.

2. Revision in LPG Cylinder Prices

The prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders have been reduced by Rs 51.50, effective September 1. In Delhi, the retail sale price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder will be Rs 1,580.

It is important to note that there is no change in the prices of the 14.2 kg domestic cylinders. Similarly, the price of a 19 kg LPG cylinder in Kolkata will be Rs 1,683 and Rs 1,531 in Mumbai.

On April 1, in a bid to provide relief to consumers at the start of the new financial year, oil marketing companies (OMCs) had previously reduced the price of commercial LPG cylinders. The price for a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder was drastically reduced by Rs 41.

3. New Silver Hallmarking Rule by BIS

From 1 September, silver will have its own hallmarking rule just like gold. This will help customers learn about purity and quality that silver jewelry contains.

As per a report by CNBC awaaz, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued guidelines for six grades of silver jewellery, i.e., 900, 800, 835, 925, 970, and 990 purity levels, to be hallmarked with a unique Hallmark Unique Identification Number (HUID) containing 6 digits.
