Once a child attains the age of 5 or 15, a Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) for Aadhaar is required. This update captures their fingerprints, iris scans and facial photographs. The process is essential to ensure accurate biometric data for services like school admissions, examinations and welfare schemes.
MBU is currently free of cost for children aged 5 to 17 until September 30, 2026. If your child has not yet undergone the MBU, it is advisable to complete it at the earliest as it may become chargeable in the future. It is important to note that MBU is chargeable for children above the age of 17.
