The Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India and Bajaj Auto Limited signed a Flexible Memorandum of Understanding (Flexi-MoU). This is perceived as a giant leap for strengthening industry driven skill development as well as deepening collaboration between Government and industry.
Under the collaboration, Bajaj Auto Ltd. will operate as an Industry Training Partner (ITP) to deliver training programs that align with the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) at its manufacturing facilities in Maharashtra and Uttarakhand. In the first year, Bajaj Auto plans to enroll 1,000 trainees in structured training programs lasting up to 24 months. These programs will combine classroom instruction with hands-on experience on the shop floor. It will utilize advanced manufacturing systems.
The Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Minister of State for Education, Government of India, Shri. Jayant Chaudhary said on the occasion, “I welcome this partnership as an important step towards strengthening industry-linked skilling in India. Initiatives like these reflect how our skilling ecosystem is evolving to become more closely aligned with the needs of industry. When training is connected to real production environments and modern technologies, it helps young people gain practical experience and become truly job-ready. Such collaborations play a vital role in building a strong pipeline of skilled talent for the country and will be instrumental as India moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and positions itself as a global hub for skilled workforce.”
The Smt. Debashree Mukherjee - Secretary, MSDE, Shri. Dilip Kumar - Director General, Directorate General of Training (DGT) and Shri. Sunil Kumar Gupta - Deputy Director General, DGT, graced the signing ceremony of Flexi-MoU. Shri Pranav Choudhary, Director (Curriculum Development), DGT, and Shri Hemant D Ganjare, Director (CFI) DGT, also attended the event along with other DGT officials.
From the side of Bajaj Auto Ltd., Shri. Ravi Kyran Ramasamy, Chief HR Officer, participated in the ceremony alongside other representatives of the company. The Flexi-MoU Scheme, implemented by the Directorate General of Training under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, allows industries the flexibility to create customized training programs that align with emerging technologies and meet sector-specific demands, all while adhering to the NSQF.
This scheme requires a minimum annual training capacity of 100 trainees as well as industry-led practical and formative assessments. It also requires Centralized Computer-Based Theoretical examinations to be conducted by the DGT. Trainees who successfully complete the program shall receive a National Trade Certificate (NTC). The certification will make them eligible for apprenticeship opportunities.
The proposed implementation plan will provide trainees with exposure to areas like advanced automotive manufacturing systems, production dojos, quality control systems, plant maintenance technologies, mechatronics systems, welding technologies, assembly operations and logistics management among other areas. All the courses will be in alignment with NSQF and delivered via a structured, industry-integrated model that leverages existing training infrastructure of Bajaj Auto.
The partnership between Bajaj Auto and the MSDE envisions to strengthen the industry-aligned skill development within the automotive manufacturing habitat. It is expected that the move will enhance employability and placement outcomes via exposure to the real time production ecosystem. It is anticipated to facilitate creation of a sustainable pipeline of skilled suppliers, technicians and vendor networks and at the same time, expand structured career opportunities via apprenticeships as well as long-term job opportunities.
According to the guidelines of the Flexi-MoU scheme, the industrial training partners would need to ensure placement of a minimum of 50% of the successful trainees. They may utilize CSR funds to support training costs as well as stipends. A strong commitment has been showcased by Bajaj Auto when it comes to skill development. Approx. 70-80% of this company’s CSR expenditure focuses on skilling initiatives.
The company is already helping out over 90,000 students in a year across India via initiatives like Bajaj Engineering Skills Training (BEST), Bajaj Manufacturing Systems (BMS) and Bajaj STEP (Service Technician Excellence Program). The Flexi-MoU shall remain valid for a period of ten years. It may be extended subject to performance outcomes in enrolment, learning achievements and placements, in accordance with the provisions of the scheme.
