Postal Channel Enabled with Export Benefits for MSMEs and Small Exporters

The Department of Posts of the Ministry of Communications has announced the extension of export benefits, specifically Duty Drawback, Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products and Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies, for exports made through the postal channel. This will take effect on 15 January 2026 in pursuance of notifications issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.

This initiative is regarded as a giant leap towards simplifying and expanding access to export opportunities, particularly for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, artisans, start-ups and small exporters who rely heavily on the postal network for low and medium-value international shipments.

With automated IGST refunds already in place, the addition of export incentives via the postal channel further reduces costs, improves liquidity and enhances Indian exporters’ competitiveness. Exports made via postal channel are facilitated via Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras, which are a collaborative effort between the Department of Posts and CBIC.

These Kendras provide extensive export facilitation services under one single roof. As of now, there are 1,013 such Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras that are operational all across the country. They enable exporters from even the country’s remote and underserved regions to access global markets through streamlined booking, digital documentation and smooth customs clearance.

To make these benefits operational, the DNK/Self-Service Portal and Customs platforms have the necessary system enhancements backed by clear standard operating procedures for exporters as well as field officials. These measures are in alignment with Foreign Trade Policy 2023 objectives as well as Government’s focus on ease of doing business and cross border e-commerce promotion.

India Post provides a single window end to end export solution, which includes pick up, documentation, faceless custom clearance, online payment and live tracking. Services like the International Tracked Packet Service available in 135 countries offer a reliable and cost-effective solution for cross border e-commerce shipments.

The Department of Posts extensively supports small exporters and micro, small and medium enterprises via utilization of its wide postal network as well as its digital platforms. This helps bridge the export access gap and enhances India’s position when it comes to global trade.
