Delhi CM Rekha Gupta-led government has announced the launch of Saheli Smart Card, i.e., a travel pass that would enable free rides in DTC and Cluster buses to eligible individuals.
This step aims to ensure women and transgender individuals aged 12 years and above get safe, easily-accessible and self-reliant public transport. However, they must be bona fide residents of Delhi to be eligible.
The Saheli Smart Card would replace the earlier paper-based pink ticket mechanism. It would contain essential details like the holder’s name and photograph. Officials mentioned that the card’s issuance would be done under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework. This would make it future-ready for amalgamation with other modes of transit.
The purpose of this card is more than allowing free travel on DTC and Cluster buses. It’ll also provide individuals with recharge and top-up functionalities for Metro and other transport facilities.
The DTC portal is the designated portal to register for availing Saheli Smart Card. The applicants will need to choose a participating bank and complete full KYC (Know Your Customer) verification at the selected bank branch. Additionally, it’ll be essential for the applicants to provide proof of age and Delhi residence.
