On 12 January, 2026, Special Secretary & Member (Customs), Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customers, Shri. Surjit Bhujabal inaugurated the Indian Customs Electronic Gateway-Land Port Management System (abbreviated as ICEGATE-LPMS) integration at Integrated Check Post at Agartala - the capital of Tripura.

In the ongoing journey of CBIC in digital transformation in cross border trade facilitation, this initiative is being viewed as a major milestone. The integration of ICEGATE-LPMS allows for real time bidirectional exchange of data between ICEGATE and the Land Port Management System. It helps to ensure that the digital ecosystem at land ports is smooth.

This integration replicates the efficiencies achieved at seaports, airports and inland container depots. It contributes to a faster clearance of goods. It makes workflows for import and export processes automated, and as a result, enables secure and reliable data exchange. Moreover, in order to maintain data integrity, the integration provides powerful reconciliation mechanisms.

Key customs data elements included in the integration are as follows :- Bill of Entry, Shipping Bill, Out of Charge and Let Export Order. Further, the integration incorporates event-based updates to track cargo movement from slot booking to gate in and gate out. These enhancements reduce manual intervention as well as improve operational efficiency at Integrated Check Posts to a great extent.

This initiative embodies coordinated border management. Moreover, it promotes harmonious operations among various border agencies through shared data, common risk assessment and synchronized decision making. Automated status updates and digital workflows lower transaction costs and also enhance the ease of doing business. They align with Indian border management practices with global standards.

The integration contributes to strengthening of risk based targeting from an enforcement standpoint. Real time logistics data from LPMS when combined with declarations and intelligence from ICEGATE enables early risk assessment and anomaly identification as well as selective control application. This approach improves compliance outcomes while minimizing disruptions to compliant trade.

The inauguration exemplifies the collaborative efforts of the CBIC and the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) to ensure that India’s trade infrastructure remains future ready as well as globally competitive. It makes cross border trade simpler, faster and much more transparent.
