The Government of India consistently works to enhance convenience for the residents One of the latest initiatives comes from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), which has now enabled individuals to add/update their email addresses directly via the new Aadhaar App. It eliminates the need for physical visits to Aadhaar centers. This free service on the app will be available starting 1 July 2026 for a period of six months. It will make it easier than ever for residents to keep their Aadhaar information up to date.
By removing the requirement for physical visits, this initiative showcases how committed UIDAI is when it comes to providing user-friendly digital services as part of Digital India initiative aimed at achieving a developed India (Viksit Bharat). Within just two days of the new service launch on the app, nearly 250,000 users updated their email addresses.
Linking an email address with Aadhaar is necessary as it allows users to receive real time notifications whenever an Aadhaar authentication request is made. This enhances transparency as well as provides an added layer of security. It allows Aadhaar number holders to stay informed about the use of their Aadhaar for various purposes.
Designed to improve overall ease of living, the new Aadhaar App allows users to access multiple services like mobile number and address updates directly from their smartphones.
So far, over 4 million people have updated their mobile numbers via the new Aadhaar App. Approximately 1 million have used the app for address updates. UIDAI encourages residents to take advantage of the opportunity to add and update their email addresses in Aadhaar.
Users can access the email update feature by downloading or updating the Aadhaar App. The app is available for both Android and iOS. People can download it using the links provided below:
