Soon, the UIDAI (short for Unique Identification Authority of India) will launch a new Aadhaar mobile app that will provide users with increased control over their identity data as well as the ability to update demographic details far more easily.

As per the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the new app will allow users to store Aadhaar details for up to five family members in one place. It will offer full flexibility when it comes to sharing complete or selective information and feature a one-click biometric lock/unlock for enhanced security.

The app will also simplify important tasks for users like updating mobile numbers, changing addresses and enabling offline verification via QR-based authentication. This will make it easier to use Aadhaar in various locations like hotels, airports, residential societies and even at events.

UIDAI, which issues a 12-digit Aadhaar number to residents, aims to strengthen the offline verification system via the upcoming app, which is expected to be released in the coming month.

Paperless Identity Sharing via Upcoming Aadhaar App

The government has announced that the Aadhaar app will allow for paperless identity sharing and let the users verify and share either complete or partial Aadhaar information. Ahead of the formal launch of this app, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) conducted an informative webinar on November 19 about offline verification using the Aadhaar app.

Bhuvnesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, in his welcome address, emphasized the webinar's goal to promote offline verification. UIDAI has developed a robust ecosystem around this initiative. Through the help of this webinar, the government aimed to raise awareness regarding the features and benefits as well as the potential of offline Aadhaar verification with the upcoming app.

The UIDAI CEO stressed on the fact that offline verification would provide users and entities with a secure, convenient and privacy protecting method for identity verification. This approach discourages the sharing and reliance on physical or photocopy versions of Aadhaar, which could lead to potential fraudulent practices.
