The Spices Board has launched the "Sustainability in Spice Sector through Progressive, Innovative and Collaborative Interventions for Export Development (SPICED)" Scheme for the FY 2025–2026.

The program provides funding for a number of components with the goals of boosting innovation, sustainability and export growth in the Indian spice industry. Applications will be accepted online starting on May 26.

The SPICES Scheme's objectives are to increase the output of both large and small cardamom plants, raise the standard of post-harvest procedures, and promote the manufacturing and export of organic, value-added, and GI-tagged spices. Additionally, it aims to increase the ability of stakeholders along the value chain and facilitate adherence to international food safety and phytosanitary standards.

Spice exporters can apply for assistance under the export development and promotion segments of the scheme until June 30. Meanwhile, farmers and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) are eligible to apply for support under the scheme’s development-related components in other categories until September 30.

The SPICES Scheme offers aid for various activities, including the replanting and rejuvenation of cardamom plantations, the creation of water resources, the adoption of micro-irrigation systems, promotion of organic farming, and the expansion of good agricultural practices. The scheme also supports the installation of modern post harvest infrastructure such as modern dryers, slicers, dehullers and grading machines to improvise product quality.

Under the SPICES Scheme, financial assistance is also provided to farmers and FPOs for the procurement of vital post harvest machinery such as spice polishers, turmeric boilers, mint distillation units and threshers.

Under the export development and promotion component, the scheme helps the spice exporters to participate in international trade fairs, buyer-seller meets and market linkage initiatives. Special priority is given to first-time exporters and small enterprises to help them present Indian spices on the global platforms.
