The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has launched a brand new initiative known as BHARATI on the sidelines of “Food & Beverages Sector Stakeholders Meeting”. The meeting was chaired by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal, alongside H.E. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE’s Minister of Foreign Trade, and Union Minister of Food Processing Industries Shri Chirag Paswan.

BHARATI stands for Bharat’s Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Enablement. The initiative has been launched to empower a total of 100 agri-food and agri-tech startups, speed up their journey, encourage innovation and create new export opportunities for the young businessmen.

The initiative supports APEDA’s vision to achieve $50 billion in agri-food exports for scheduled products by 2030. From September 2025 onwards, the pilot cohort will include high-value producers, tech driven service providers and innovators in areas like GI tagged agri products, organic foods, AYUSH products, superfoods and livestock based products.

Apart from this, APEDA’s BHARATI initiative targets advanced technologies like AI-based quality control, IoT-enabled cold chains, agri-fintech and blockchain traceability. The initiative will address challenges faced during product development, quality assurance, value addition, packaging, sustainability, logistics and perishability.

BHARAT aligns with the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self reliant India) vision, Digital India, Vocal for Local and Start-up India of the Government of India. It seeks to form globally competitive agri-products and boost global demand for Indian food and processed products.

The selection process will begin in September 2025 via APEDA website. The startups selected under the initiative will undergo a three-month acceleration programme that focuses on export readiness, market access, collaborative solutions and regulatory compliance. The pilot cohort will encourage continuous innovation and long-term export growth. It will consolidate India’s position in the international agri-food trade.
