FSSAI Suspends Licence of Westend Agro Products

On 26 July 2026, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) announced that it has suspended license of a company known as Westend Agro Products Pvt Ltd., an Indian food and agricultural processing company that owns the brand Organic Shastra. 

This strict action was taken by the food regulator due to serious violations of food regulations by the company like alteration of manufacturing and expiry dates on several products. In a social media post, the FSSAI stated that suspension followed significant violations observed during an inspection at company's premises. 

Altered Labels and Misbranded Food Products

The food regulator received a complaint regarding the manipulation of manufacturing dates, packaging dates, fraudulent relabeling and the sale of misbranded food products. During inspection, it was discovered that Westend Agro Products as well as the Westend Corporation were operating from same location. The FSSAI reported that numerous food products were found to have altered manufacturing dates, expiry dates, batch numbers and misleading label declarations.

Additionally, the regulator discovered printing machinery, stamps, solvents and other materials that were allegedly used to modify mandatory food label information. FSSAI also recovered the packaging materials, labels and printed wrappers that contained misleading declarations like claims of being organic. 

The regulator noted that deliberate forgery and alteration of mandatory labeling information along with the sale of food with false or misleading labels pose a direct threat to consumer and public health. As a result, these food products are considered prima facie unsafe. Consequently, the State FSSAI License of Westend Agro Products Pvt Ltd has been suspended with immediate effect. 

Action Against Sopan Restaurant

Furthermore, on 25 July 2026, FSSAI imposed a penalty on Sopan Restaurant for selling substandard food in the pantry car of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express. For the sub-standard food’s sale, an adjudication order has been issued against Sopan Restaurant. 

This order was issued following an analysis of a sample of Nova Flavoured Double Toned Milk collected from Pantry Car No. 15904 on the Chandigarh - Dibrugarh Express, which is operated by Sopan Restaurant. 

Other Recent Actions by FSSAI

Last week, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) also suspended the license of Rehaan Healthcare, a Punjab-based company, after serious violations of regulations were found in its health supplements and nutraceuticals manufacturing unit. Rehaan Healthcare, which produces digestive syrup, multivitamin syrup and other syrup-based food products, has been instructed to halt production until all deficiencies are corrected and the changes are verified by the competent authority. 

In recent months, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken significant action against several energy drink and alcoholic beverage companies for making misleading claims and using improper labeling. The authority has also issued notices to various e-commerce platforms in response to consumer complaints, proactive measures and routine enforcement activities conducted by food safety officers. Notably, FSSAI has been sharing these enforcement actions against food business operators and e-commerce companies on social media platforms, including Instagram. 

In the last few months, FSSAI has cracked down on many energy drink and alcoholic beverage companies for misleading claims and labellings. It has also issued notices to many e-commerce platforms. These actions are based on consumer complaints, suo-motto cognizance and also regular enforcement activities of food safety officers.

Interestingly, FSSAI is posting these enforcement actions against the food business operators and e-commerce companies on social media platforms, including on Instagram and Facebook.
