The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), within the Ministry of Communications, has released the National Frequency Allocation Plan 2025 (NFAP 2025). This important policy document governs the management and allocation of radio-frequency spectrum in India. It took effect on 30 December 2025.

NFAP 2025 outlines the allocation of radio-frequency spectrum for a variety of radio communication services, covering frequencies from 8.3 kHz to 3000 GHz. It serves as a crucial reference for those who are spectrum managers, wireless operators and telecommunications equipment manufacturers.

Enhancements made in NFAP 2025

In order to meet the rising spectrum demand for next gen technologies, the NPFAP 2025 Plan introduces various strategic and future ready revision such as the following :-

  • Identification of the 6425-7125 MHz band for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), which will significantly improve mid-band spectrum availability for 5G, 5G Advanced and future 6G networks.

  • Allocation of Ka, Q and V bands for satellite-based services essential for high-throughput Geo Stationary Orbit satellites and extensive non-GSO satellite constellations.

  • Additional spectrum’s provision for In Flight and Maritime Connectivity to ensure access of seamless broadband in air and at sea.

  • Support for emerging technologies including Vehicle to Everything communication, LEO/MEO satellite services and enhanced broadband connectivity solutions.

The above mentioned enhancements in NFAP 2025 by DoT will ensure that India's spectrum management remains responsive, high capacity and aligned with global standards. They will support current as well as future digital innovations that will aid in the development of the ecosystem in India.
