About Prime Minister Internship Scheme

The PM Internship Scheme is a government scheme that was introduced on October 3, 2024, by FM Shri Nirmala Sitharaman. The scheme was launched with the goal of giving young people internships in the top 500 Indian companies. Over the next five years, the PM internship scheme plans to offer 1 crore internship opportunities. 

Prime Minister Internship Scheme differs from other student training programs, apprenticeships, and skill development schemes that are implemented in India's states and union territories. The scheme aims to offer a customized experience that improves employability and gives young people exposure to the real world by concentrating only on internships.

Leading companies that are involved in the scheme include Eicher Motors, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra, Alembic Pharmaceuticals, Max Life Insurance, Larsen & Toubro, and Mahindra & Mahindra. The applicant is not required to pay any application fee for the PM internship scheme. The application is available free of cost.  

Note: Internships under PM Internship Scheme will officially commence on 2nd December, 2024. 

Benefits of PM Internship Scheme

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme has the following benefits:

  • The scheme provides Rs. 5,000 as a monthly stipend.

  • It provides a one-time payment of Rs. 6,000 to the interns.

  • The interns get to gain real-life work experience.

  • Every intern gets insurance coverage under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana of the Government of India.

Eligibility Criteria for PM Internship Scheme

  • The applicant must be an Indian national.

  • They should be at least 21 years of age and not more than 24 years of age.

  • They should have completed their education up to higher secondary level.

  • They should not be in full-time employment or pursuing full-time education. 

How to Apply for PM Internship Scheme?

In order to apply for the PM Internship Scheme, certain steps need to be followed. These steps have to be fulfilled by visiting the official PM internship scheme website. Let’s check out these steps:

Step 1: Visit the official portal of the Prime Minister Internship Scheme.
Step 2: Now, you have to click on the registration link to open the form for application.
Step 3: Enter all the required details then the registration form. Make sure they’re filled accurately then proceed to submit.
Step 4: The portal will automatically generate a resume based on the inputs you provided.
Step 5: Based on your preferences, sector, location, role, and qualifications, you can select up to 5 internships.
Step 6: Now, you can submit your application and download the confirmation page’s copy.

Note: Applications for PM Internship Scheme have now been closed for 2024. The last date for filing the application was 15th November, 2024. 

Who cannot apply for PM Internship Scheme?

The following persons cannot participate in the PM Internship Scheme.

  • Individuals who graduated from IITs, IIMs, National Law Universities, IISER, NIDs, and IIITs.

  • Individuals with professional qualifications like CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, any master’s or higher degree.

  • Individuals who are presently undergoing a skill, apprenticeship, internship, or student training program under a Central/State Government scheme.

  • An individual cannot apply for the PM Internship scheme if any of their family members is a permanent or regular government employee.

  • If the income of any of the family members of the candidate is more than Rs. 8 lakh for the Financial Year 2023-2024.

  • An individual ineligible for Pradhan Mantri Internship Yojana if they have completed apprenticeship or training under National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) or National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
