Reward to GST Payers from September 1st, 2023 [Mera Bill Mera Adhikar]

On the Twitter handle of CBIC, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) launched a scheme called the “Mera Bill Mera Adhikar” invoice incentive scheme. It will come into effect from September 1st, 2023 and under the scheme, cash prizes from Rs 10,000 to Rs. 1 crore will be offered. In three different states and union territories, this scheme will launch, and these states are as follows:

  1. Assam
  2. Gujarat
  3. Haryana
  4. Puducherry
  5. Daman & Diu
  6. Dadra & Nagar Haveli

The scheme will allow you to earn cash prizes on the upload of GST invoices. All the invoices issued by Goods and Services Tax (GST) registered suppliers must upload on the Mera Bill Mera Adhikar App. You can download the app from the iOS App Store or Android Play Store.

To win the cash prizes in a lucky draw the minimum purchase value of the invoice must be Rs. 200. An individual can upload a maximum of 25 invoices at the beginning of September month. The invoice that will upload on the app must have the GSTIN of the seller, invoice number, amount and tax paid.

 

Every month around 500 computerized lucky draws will organised and lakhs of rupees will provided as prize money. Two lucky draws will be held in each quarter with a prize pool of Rs 1 crore.

What is a Motive of the Scheme?

The main motive of the scheme is to encourage consumers to ask for genuine bills from the seller. On every purchase of goods or services that would benefit GST purview. GST Network (GSTN) has created a technology platform that will allow customers to easily enroll on the app and upload invoices through an app or portal.

 

To control GST evasion, the government has made the electronic obligatory for B2B transactions if the yearly turnover crosses the limit of Rs. 3 crore. This scheme will confirm the generation of electronic invoices for B2C customers in order to make buyers qualified for the lucky draw.

 

The important factors of the scheme are incentives the behaviour of consumers of taking bills, providing rewards, growing consumer spending, facilitating tax-compliant businesses, and reviewing tax evasion.

Which Types of Bills are Eligible for Reward?

For the scheme, only B2C (Business to Consumer) invoices are acceptable.

  • School bills are eligible, if they qualify for the specification of B2C.
  • B2C LPG bills are eligible.
  • Petrol bills are excluded from the scheme as they are not subject to GST.

 

Note: Winners must provide their original identity document, uploaded original bill, and any other required government document, as prescribed by the government from time to time. The winners will be notified through the SMS, Mobile App or the Portal.
