In Karnataka state, all the pvt companies that employ at least one employee must obtain a professional tax registration certificate (if the employee earns a monthly gross salary of Rs. 25,000 or above). In case of self employed individuals, a professional tax enrolment certificate must be obtained within 30 days of commencing business or profession.

For registration, the process needs to be completed online via e-Prerana. In the process, the following steps are involved:

Step 1:  First and foremost, you need to visit the official e-Prerana portal.

Step 2: Then, once you are on the homepage, you must click on the ‘Employer Login’ button visible on the dashboard.

Step 3: Now, on the next screen, you must ‘choose the RC request type’ (RC here means Registration Certificate). You must select ‘TAN Registered Taxpayer’ if your business possesses a TAN. In case you are a freelancer or engaged in any profession, you need to select the ‘PAN Registered Taxpayer’ option instead.

Step 4: Thereafter, you need to provide all the necessary information like name of business, location of business, TAN/PAN and upload all the required documents. Once you have done this, you need to click on the ‘Submit’ option.

Step 5: Upon successful submission, you will receive a URN (Unique Acknowledgement Number).

Step 6: Then, on your registered mobile number, you will receive your username and password for e prerana login. Make sure to save the username and password as they are essential for monthly statements’ filing.
